“Lake Nula – The Jewel of Vareš” Project Completed in Celebration of Earth Day

The Adriatic Foundation, in collaboration with the Association of Sport Fishermen Vareš (UGSR Vareš), successfully implemented a multi-day educational and ecological project entitled “Lake Nula – The Jewel of Vareš.” The initiative aimed to promote awareness of environmental protection through engaging and practical activities with local schoolchildren.

The project consisted of three key phases:

  1. Educational Workshops
Students from Vareš Elementary School participated in workshops called “Basics of Fishing and the Ongoing Need to Protect the Environment.” Members of UGSR Vareš introduced the children to fishing equipment and basic techniques, highlighting fishing as both a popular recreational sport and an important activity for nature conservation.
  2. Lake Restocking
Students from Vareš Elementary School and Vareš Majdan Elementary School took part in restocking Lake Nula with trout. This hands-on activity contributed directly to restoring the local fish population and protecting the aquatic ecosystem.
  3. Field Workshop and Fishing Competition
The final phase featured a field workshop where students practiced fishing skills, including gear use and casting techniques. The project concluded with a friendly fishing competition using float fishing, where the top three participants were rewarded with complete fishing kits.

Nature and Creativity Combined

Alongside fishing activities, students enjoyed the beautiful setting of Lake Nula by participating in an outdoor art workshop, using natural surroundings as inspiration for their creative expression.

A Lasting Impact The “Lake Nula – The Jewel of Vareš” project demonstrated that combining education, practical experience, and a connection with nature can effectively foster environmental awareness. The Adriatic Foundation and UGSR Vareš thank all participants and local schools for their collaboration and look forward to future projects focused on preserving natural resources and educating young generations.
